Yeast S. cerevisiae ADE2 Catabolic Repression Kit - 90 boxes with YPG
This set, specifically dedicated to the second grade class, is designed for quick implementation. Ideal for an introduction to basic techniques of cultivating microorganisms.
By modifying environmental culture parameters of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae ADE2, the student will experimentally demonstrate that gene expression is subject to environmental factors. Thus, they will be able to manipulate the adenine content and/or create anaerobic conditions and then compare the results to the control box.
The ADE2 yeast on complete medium uses an adenine biosynthesis pathway that carries a mutation leading to the accumulation of a red pigment. In a very adenine-rich environment (provided by the tablet), the yeast does not use this biosynthesis pathway: therefore, the colonies regain their usual beige/cream color.
