Cholesterol model
Illustrating the origin of cholesterol and its consequences on human health.
Cholesterol is a waxy substance that comes from two sources: the human body and diet.
The human body, especially the liver, produces all the necessary cholesterol and circulates it in the blood. Cholesterol is also found in animal-based foods such as meat, poultry, and full-fat dairy products.
When the diet is high in saturated fats and trans fats, the liver produces more cholesterol. Excess cholesterol can form plaque in the arteries, complicating blood flow to the heart. This plaque can rupture, causing blood clots that lead to significant physiological disorders if the brain or heart are no longer irrigated.
Dimensions (L x W x H) = approximately 26 x 18 x 20 cm.
Weight = approximately 289 g.
