Simulating the creation of an ocean during the phenomenon of divergence between two tectonic plates.
Investigation process:
The student has at their disposal on the unique continent the magnetic and petrographic fossil clues. They simulate the movement of tectonic plates by simply spreading apart the strips carrying the continents simultaneously. They then observe the position of the clues in relation to the ridge. Based on surface observations, the student can make hypotheses about the age of the rock at the center of the ocean compared to the rock near the continents (associated colors) and on the mechanisms of creating an ocean in depth that they can diagram thanks to the rewritable zone on the model's profile.
The model consists of:
- Metal platform with tear-resistant synthetic paper
- 8 magnetic clues
- Metal tray with printed tear-proof synthetic paper, - 8 magnetic clues.
