In the presence of this annular diaphragm, the blue rays are more deviated than the red ones and will converge more quickly. Spherical aberrations result in a blurry image. Paraxial and marginal rays do not have the same distance to travel and do not focus in the same plane. An iris diaphragm allows for the selection of paraxial rays and to observe the effect of aberrations on the image.
