This educational kit demonstrates the great interest of spectrophotometers in the industrial or academic analysis of optical slides.

Indeed, this kit, accompanied by a manual, guides you in understanding and usefulness of spectrophotometric measurements to determine the optical indices of a material from grooves recorded with the SpectroVio II.

Thus, two different samples, in slide format, are proposed to study different aspects:
• Polymer film: study of the grooves present in the film then calculation of its mechanical thickness
• Glass slide with treatment: complete study of the spectral response of the grooves thanks to the model of multiple reflections:
- Theoretical study of the dispersion response of the refractive index of the substrate
- Identification of the high or low index nature of the deposited layer
- Extrapolation and calculation of the reflection coefficient of the thin layer
- Determination of its optical thickness
- Calculation of the monolayer index
- Determination of its physical mechanical thickness

These variations in transmission or grooves are the consequence of the interference produced within a material deposited in a thin layer with a thickness of the order of the coherence length of natural light.

The spectral analysis therefore makes it possible to quantify the indices of the support and of the deposited film and to determine the optical and mechanical thicknesses of the film.
