Antibiogram simulation kit for college
This kit represents an alternative to a real antibiogram, perfect for middle school.
This demonstrative practical work allows for a concrete approach to 2 fundamental concepts of antibiotic treatments for infectious diseases:
- Action spectra of 3 antibiotics on 2 different strains (different colored boxes).
- Emergence of a strain resistant to an antibiotic (2 boxes of the same color).
Principle:
A safe implementation: bacteria are simulated by agar plates impregnated with pH indicator, and ready-to-use solutions at different pH levels simulate antibiotics.
As in a real antibiogram, a zone of discoloration indicates the antibiotic's activity.
Format: 10 tests
Duration of the practical work: 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes
Shelf life: 6 months
Storage conditions: Room temperature
The kit consists of:
- 30 boxes ø 55 mm
- 3 simulated antibiotic vials
- 3 simulated bacterial strain vials
- 1 tube of agar agar (2 g)
- 100 impregnated discs
