The Genova Bio is a UV/Visible spectrophotometer dedicated to life sciences applications. This user-friendly device with an excellent performance/price ratio operates autonomously. The Genova Bio is a flexible spectrophotometer as it is compatible with a wide range of low-volume cuvettes. This model is the ideal measurement device for DNA and RNA samples. Its color touchscreen allows quick access to preprogrammed methods for measuring nucleic acid concentration and purity, protein quantification, and cell density analysis. The Genova Bio covers a wide range of wavelengths from 198 to 800 nm, with a narrow bandwidth of 3 nm. It comes with a two-year warranty, including a xenon lamp.
The Nucleic Acids measurement mode allows quantification of the concentration and purity of dsDNA, ssDNA, RNA, and oligonucleotides using preprogrammed factors and preselected wavelengths at 260, 280, and 230 nm (optional correction at 320 nm). Purity is calculated based on the 260/280 nm and 260/230 nm ratios. By simply pressing a button, it is possible to easily visually verify the purity of nucleic acids by identifying typical peaks between 200 and 350 nm. This process is particularly useful for RNA samples that may contain impurities at 230 nm but remain undetectable using the 260/280 nm ratio.
When nucleic acid concentrations are high, or only low-volume samples are available, a dilution option can be used to calculate the original concentration of diluted samples.
The Proteins measurement mode can be used to measure protein concentration by creating calibration curves from protein assay kits. With preprogrammed methods including Bradford, Lowry, Biuret, and BCA, up to 6 standards can be measured with the possibility of up to 3 replicates per standard to minimize dilution errors. Each method has an optional background correction wavelength depending on the measured assay.
To determine protein purity, the protein measurement mode also includes UV Direct methods at 280 nm and Warburg-Christian. The Genova Bio also features a preprogrammed method for measuring the optical density of bacterial cultures, such as E. coli and yeast cell cultures. This model is ideal for measuring cell growth before sampling.
In addition to these preprogrammed life sciences methods, the Genova Bio is a versatile spectrophotometer with traditional measurement modes such as photometry, concentration, quantification, spectral scanning, and kinetics. It can perform measurements at any selected wavelength between 198 and 800 nm.
The optical system of the Genova Bio consists of a diode array detector coupled with a xenon flash lamp. This technology allows spectral scanning across the entire wavelength range (198 to 800 nm) in less than 3 seconds. The optical network design of the Genova Bio provides robustness and longevity. Its user-friendly operation, via the color touchscreen, combined with its light weight (<3 kg) and compact size, makes the Genova Bio an essential device in your laboratory.
The Genova Bio comes standard with a micro-cuvette holder, making it an ideal measurement device for low-volume samples, starting from 50 µl. For even smaller volume samples, the Genova Bio can accommodate a TrayCell cuvette. This allows measurement of very low-volume samples, starting from 0.7 µl, without the need for dilution. The Genova Bio is equipped with two USB ports for data storage and connection to an optional external printer. The front USB port can easily be used for storing and transferring data to Microsoft Excel in CSV format.
Comes with user manual, universal power cable, and Hellma TrayCell cuvette.
