A spectrocolorimeter is a sophisticated instrument whose performance lies between that of a colorimeter and a spectrophotometer. Light is projected onto an optoelectronic system equipped with a series of diodes filtered through narrow bandwidths. The accuracy of a spectrocolorimeter naturally depends on the number of measurement points. Models that take only fifteen measurements with bandwidths of twenty nanometers will therefore be less precise than higher-performance models.
High-end spectrocolorimeters are equipped with diffraction gratings that generate a full spectrum projected onto an array of diodes, similar to the working principle of certain spectrophotometers.
