Amelogenin is a protein necessary for the formation of tooth enamel. PCR amplification of a portion of the amelogenin gene reveals allelic variations of this gene between the X and Y chromosomes.
Genotyping produces two specific amplicons: one for X (AMELX) and one for Y (AMELY). During electrophoresis separation, two distinct amplicons will be found in males (XY) while only one amplicon will be generated for females (XX).

This simple genotyping provides multiple study contexts:
- Forensic science, a referenced technique for determining genetic fingerprints
- Sexual identification in human archaeological remains
- Pathology of imperfect amelogenesis
- Evolution of mammals and primates
- Alternative splicing, exon, intron

This complete and easy-to-use kit contains the material for a direct sampling of epidermal cells (buccal or above the hand). No need for centrifugation or extraction, you simply and quickly obtain your DNA samples.

Amplification time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Electrophoresis time: 15 to 25 minutes depending on the system
