Lab - Metabolic needs of yeast

Purpose of the experiment:
Show the relationship between the respiratory activity of cells and the nature of the metabolite added to the medium. Measure oxygen absorption by 'starved' cells by varying the nature of the metabolite present in the medium for each measurement.

Possible Exploitations:
- Identify among the metabolites, those used by the yeasts.
- Show that metabolites are organic molecules (see Knop)
- Compare oxygen consumption based on the metabolite used
- Approach to the oxidation balance reaction of a metabolite by respiration
- Understanding the enzymatic equipment of yeasts and the regulation of enzymatic synthesis
