This kit contains all the materials for students to test different techniques to clean dirty water and make it clearer. The objective is to show that water treatments require a series of physical, chemical, and biological actions (not covered in this kit). The substrate is dirty water reconstituted with clay, organic compounds, and food coloring. This kit allows exploring different processes, which will implement 3 filtration techniques (approach based on the physical properties of water) and a flocculation technique (chemical process based on the properties of suspended particles). The methods tested with this kit are as follows: - Simple filtration on paper or cotton - Filtration on sand - Filtration on activated charcoal (an odorant substance can be added to show odor absorption) - Flocculation of muddy water Format: 10 complete tests Duration of the experiment: 1 session of 50 minutes Storage duration: No constraints Storage conditions: Room temperature

The kit consists of: - 1 pot of topsoil (300 g) - 1 pot of activated charcoal (250 g) - 1 pot of sand (200 g) - 10 quick paper filters (for activated charcoal) - 10 medium paper filters diameter 120 mm - 30 hydrophilic gauzes - 1 bottle of alum sulfate solution (125 mL - 2%) - 1 bottle of food coloring (60 mL) - 10 pipettes 1 mL
