PCR DNA Barcoding Fish Kit - 17007432EDU | Bio-Rad

With the PCR DNA fish barcoding kit, students identify fish species based on the DNA sequence of a standard reference gene (cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) or the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene). Students extract DNA from tissues, amplify the gene by PCR, perform electrophoresis migration of the PCR products on agarose gel, sequence the gene, and then use the obtained sequence and bioinformatics data to genetically identify the species. The unique sequence produced from a given sample is considered its DNA barcode.

Lab Duration: 3 sessions of 45 minutes each

The kit consists of:
- 5 ml Cell resuspension solution
- 5 ml Cell lysis solution
- 5 ml Neutralization solution
- 10 ml Wash buffer
- 5 ml Matrix
- 20 Centrifuge filters
- 50 PCR tubes 0.2 ml
- 250 Microcentrifuge tubes 2 ml
- 1.2 ml PCR master mix (Taq DNA polymerase, dNTPs, buffer)
