This device is composed of an adiabatic briefcase, two steel blocks, and two aluminum blocks of the same dimensions.
The blocks, previously heated or cooled, are placed in the insulated foam compartments of the briefcase.
The blocks can be placed either in perfect contact to study energy transfer by conduction or separated by a thin layer of air to study energy transfer by radiation.
This space also allows for the insertion of plates made of different materials (ref. 253 120, to be ordered separately) to establish a quantitative classification of their thermal resistances.
Measurements can be taken with conventional thermometers or with ExAO by inserting the thermometric probe directly into the core of the metal blocks.
For added safety, handling of the hot blocks is done using two plastic rods.
