Subjects discussed :
- Spatial filtering
- Phase contrast
- Ombroscopy
- Schlieren effect

Principles and objectives:
Strioscopy, or Schlieren flow visualization, is the observation of light deflected by the movement of fluids or by temperature variations.
The proposed experiment makes it possible to dispense with undisturbed light rays geometrically reflected by the mirror, and to observe only the rays having undergone a change in trajectory. The filter blocks the center of the image, which has the effect of suppressing low spatial frequencies and thus accentuating “rapid” variations in image contrast. Low spatial frequencies correspond to “slow” variations in contrast (continuous background).
