Practice an experimental approach to highlight different properties of diastereoisomers
Introduction:
Some molecules in solution have the property of rotating the plane of polarized light.
This property is related to the asymmetric structure of the molecules that make up the liquid and is proportional to the concentration of the solution as well as the length of the tube passed through.
The simplified polarimeter allows demonstrating and using these properties to determine the rotational direction of a molecule and the concentration of an unknown solution based on a standard range.
