Infrared thermometers (IR) perform surface temperature measurements by analyzing the invisible infrared spectrum emitted by an object.
IR measuring instruments, such as the Fluke 61 and 65, allow for obtaining surface temperature measurements on objects that are difficult to access, rotating, under electrical voltage, or dangerously hot. For preventive maintenance tasks, these thermometers virtually reduce measurement times to zero by displaying surface temperature values in less than a second.
