Official Transcript:
Adaptive immunity, an extension of innate immunity (3-A-2)

Scientific Issue:
Adaptive immunity complements innate immunity.
How can we demonstrate the specificity of the molecules involved in adaptive immunity?.

Operational Procedure:
Demonstrate the specificity of the immune response through experimental performance of immunoprecipitation and visualization of the antigen-antibody complex formed.
This immunodiffusion, known as the Ouchterlony reaction, is based on the diffusion of molecules (antigens and antibodies) arranged in wells in a gel medium.
Recognition of the antibody and antigen leads to the formation of the Immune complex, which blocks migration resulting in the formation of a precipitation arc.
