Extract from the Official Bulletin:
The relationship between organization and way of life, a result of evolution:
the example of fixed life in plants (1-A-5)

Scientific problem:
Plants are fixed organisms. Over time, the appearance and selection of characteristics have allowed an adaptation to this way of life. In this regard, sexual reproduction requires in flowering plants the union of a male gamete and a female gamete.
After fertilization, the flower transforms into fruits containing seeds. The dispersion of seeds is necessary for survival and the spread of offspring.
What are the transformations of the flower following the encounter of gametes?

Operational procedure:
The flower is the reproductive organ of Angiosperms: one can start from its study, but one can also start from that of the fruit to then search within the flower for what is the origin of the fruit and the seed(s). This approach will be presented here.
Regardless of the chosen approach, the activities proposed will ultimately familiarize students with the organization of a flower and a fruit as well as the associated vocabulary.
Observation and dissection of the reproductive organ can lead to a simple schematic representation (floral diagram).
Without great technical difficulty, the activities can be an opportunity to train students to make appropriate choices such as the observation method to use (which tool?) and the technical gesture to perform (which cut?).
