Penetration and opacity card - BYK-GARDNER
Opacity Measurement
The covering power and the amount of paint needed are important criteria for building paints. In other words:
- How many coats are needed to completely cover the surface?
- What is the amount of paint I will need?
Opacity is a measure of covering power:
Opacity (%) = YBLACK x 100 (%) YWHITE
An opacity of 100% means that the covering is complete. A measurement on a black substrate is no different from that on a white substrate.
Control Method:
A uniform film is applied to a black/white contrast card. When the layer has dried in the air, it can be objectively evaluated with the BYK-Gardner spectro-guide. The user is guided through the menu to perform the measurement, and the opacity value is automatically indicated in less than a second. The same method is used for transparent films and plastics.
Penetration and Opacity Cards Penopac:
The test areas and functions of an application card for penetration and opacity testing are combined. Penetration resistance is of great importance for architectural finishes. The ability to maintain a uniform appearance (color and gloss) on substrates of different porosities can be evaluated by applying paint to an application card with a varnished and non-varnished area. Thus, penetration resistance is evaluated under severe conditions.
Penetration resistance is visually evaluated and can also be objectively evaluated by measuring color and gloss.
