Objective
Berlese function: collection of microarthropods from the soil.
Baerman function: collection of soil nematodes.

Principle
Berlese function: litter arthropods, fleeing light and heat emitted by the lamp, pass through a sieve, slide onto a funnel, and fall into a beaker (not included).
Baerman function: worms seeking moisture leave the soil and enter the water in a rubber tube.
