Geological map of the world during the last two extreme climatic periods
A set of two cards on two sheets:
1 - The last glacial maximum (approximately 18,000 ± 2,000 years B.P.)
2 - The Holocene optimum (approximately 8,000 ± 1,000 years B.P.)
The two chosen time slices correspond respectively to average surface temperatures of the Earth that are 4.5°C lower and 2°C higher, compared to the current situation. This initial attempt at environmental reconstruction, based on geological data from the past, provides a serious basis for reflection within the very current issue of global warming due to anthropogenic greenhouse effect, and can be usefully compared to the results of modeling.
