Balmer Series and Rydberg Constant
Topics covered:
- Single-electron atom
- Bohr atomic model
- Balmer series
- Rydberg constant
- Binding energy
Principles and objectives:
The spectral lines of hydrogen and mercury are examined using a diffraction grating. The known spectral lines of Hg are used to determine the grating constant. The wavelengths of the visible lines of the Balmer series of H2 are measured. The Rydberg constant and energy levels are also calculated.
Comments:
A simple setup for advanced experiments. Determination of the fundamental Rydberg constant in one hour.
The High Voltage power supply with high safety standards makes the experimentation safe.
