DC Motor Characterization Experiment
Topics covered:
- Study of characteristics in motor
- Study of the motor under variable load
- Study of characteristics in generator
- Study of an energy chain (energy and efficiency)
Principles and objectives:
By supplying the direct current motor with a variable voltage up to 24 V and by taking successive readings for different load values using the potentiometer, the student obtains one or more characteristics simultaneously, including the motor torque-speed characteristic. It is this latter characteristic that allows the student to define the operating point based on the load value imposed by the teacher.
The numerous acquisition and processing possibilities of the software offer a wide variety of manipulations:
- Plotting and analysis of characteristics
- Determination of motor efficiency
- Determination of an operating point
- Verification of the relationship between current and resisting torque
- Verification of the relationship between voltage and angular speed
- Determination of the energy involved in a preprogrammed charging cycle
Comments:
The student has the option to work in 2 operating modes:
- Independently using the display of the model to take readings.
- In connected mode via USB with the provided software to monitor the displayed quantities on the dashboard and plot several characteristics simultaneously, with numerous accessible and selectable quantities.
Built-in processing tools facilitate the interpretation of results. Controlling the load with this software allows for a deeper evaluation of the energy involved in the electromechanical chain.
