Topics covered:

- Heat exchanges

- Heat capacity

- Thermal equilibrium

- Energy transformation

Principles and objectives:

in a calorimeter containing a quantity of water with known mass Mwater and initial temperature Twater.

the temperature of the water is measured and recorded until thermal equilibrium is reached, at Tf, in the calorimeter.

The thermal capacity of the metal is thus determined from the thermal equilibrium equation:

Qmetal = Qwater So Mm Cm ( Troom - Tf ) = Mwater Cwater ( Tf - Twater )

Comments:

The use of the ExAO Foxy range and the scientific workshop software suite makes the realization of these experiments attractive, in addition to simplifying the implementation and ensuring rigor in measurements.

Other experiments are, of course, possible with the same setups such as the heat of fusion of water, determining the thermal capacity of the calorimeter, etc.
