This equipment meets the conditions of the simple pendulum model: a point-like attachment of the string, an inextensible string of negligible mass, and control of the oscillation angle, which must remain small.
The device allows:
- to easily vary the length of the string from 0 to 2 m using a clever notched winding system: with each turn of the winder, the length of the string varies exactly by 10 cm,
- to control the angle of the pendulum's oscillations from 0 to 40°,
- to have several masses of known value and the same volume (PVC 8 g, aluminum 14 g, brass 40 g).
A mass holder fixed on the string allows for quick substitution of the suspended mass without the need to adjust the length of the string.
The pendulum is mounted on a standard laboratory support (not provided) equipped with a rod Ø 6 to 16 mm or a square rod with a section of 15x15 mm.
