Experiment Creation of a monochromator
Subjects discussed :
- Dispersion by a network in reflection
- Adjustment of a monochromator in Czerny-Turner assembly
- Study of the resolution and spectral separation of a line spectrum
Principles and objectives:
The monochromator constitutes the main subset of the spectrometers. This instrument is designed to isolate a particular wavelength, or small spectral band Δλ, from light incident through an ouExperimentut slit.
In this practical work, we propose to build a monochromator based on the Czerny-Turner configuration which is made up of an optical system comprising:
- an input slot which acts as a “point source” and whose opening has an influence on the brightness and resolution of the system,
- a collimation mirror,
- a diffraction grating in reflection,
- a focusing mirror,
- an ouExperimentut slot is positioned at the image focus of the ouExperimentut mirror, the opening of which also improves the resolution of the system, but also limits the ouExperimentut brightness.
