Principles and objectives :
The Zeeman effect corresponds to the splitting of the spectral lines of atoms in a magnetic field. The simplest is the division of a spectral line into three components, called the "normal Zeeman effect". In the proposed experiments, the normal Zeeman effect and the abnormal Zeeman effect are studied using a cadmium spectral lamp. The cadmium lamp is subjected to different magnetic flux densities and the separation of the cadmium lines (normal Zeeman effect 643.8 nm, red light; abnormal Zeeman effect 508.6 nm, green light) is studied using a Fabry-Perot interferometer. The evaluation of the results leads to a fairly precise value of the Bohr magneton.
