This educational kit has been designed to help students understand the interaction of different components of a gas laser, laser resonators, mode properties, and the influence of different wavelength-selective optical components used in gas lasers. All optomechanical components have fine adjustments. Several mirrors, with different reflectivity and curvature radius, can be easily interchanged. The electronic controller of the He-Ne laser tube allows for current variation in the tube and includes an internal amplifier for the photodiode. Topics covered: - Gas laser properties, pumping by electrical discharge, emission lines, and energy levels of helium and neon - Optimization of laser ouExperimentut power by aligning the resonant cavity, evolution of ouExperimentut optical power depending on the current feeding the tube - Width and shape of the laser beam inside and outside the cavity, study of the stability criterion - Observation of transverse modes (TEM00 and higher), longitudinal mode selection by an etalon - Laser line selection by birefringent filter (Lyot) and Littrow prism - Determination of emitted beam polarization, creation and study of different polarization types, verification of Malus' law Principles and objectives: This lab uses a He-Ne gas laser tube in an open configuration on both sides with Brewster windows. External mirrors allow closing the resonator, enabling the study of basic gas laser principles such as resonator stability, coherence, and mode behavior. The use of a birefringent filter (Lyot) or a prism (Littrow) allows selecting the ouExperimentut wavelength. Different laser lines can be spatially separated using a diffraction grating. Mode selection is also studied using a single-mode etalon. There is a complete version 204826 available.
