Model Signal and Information
-12%
With the model, the student learns that a sound is a signal containing information. They also understand that a light wave can carry a signal.
By using, for example, a tablet or a smarExperimenthone as a sound source, the experience becomes playful. One student injects a sound of their choice while another checks the sound reception with headphones (or a speaker). This way, they do not disturb the manipulations of the nearby poles. The transmission can be done through the air to study the directivity and attenuation of the signal, and then through optical fiber (provided) to determine its advantages.
Other experiments are possible, more quantitative with a function generator and an oscilloscope (see the necessary equipment in related products).
The student notes the frequency of the emitted signal and the frequency of the received signal.
They observe that the frequencies are identical, thus the nature of the signal was not altered during transmission through optical fiber.
