This "Sound Optical Transmission Kit" is a complete information transmission system.
Demonstrative and easy to implement, it makes the transmission of sound through light tangible.
The transmission of a signal through optical means is ensured by a modulable laser, adjustable in intensity and focus. The practical purpose of the experiment involves measuring bandwidth, numerical aperture, permissible amplitude...
Three modes of use are possible: in air, through optical fiber without and with connectors.
Experiments:
- Numerical aperture
- Transmission: bandwidth, modulated signal, and attenuation
- Spectral attenuation of a fiber
- Wavelength multiplexing
The concepts of free-space propagation and guided propagation are addressed through the use or non-use of the supplied 2 m optical fiber.
For further exploration, signals can be processed using a function generator and an oscilloscope.
Tip: the adjustable/modulable laser provided in this kit can be used for all manipulations requiring a laser, especially for diffraction and interference.
