Thanks to this model, the student is faced with a progressive approach to understand the principle of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion. Initially, based on a simple electrical signal, the student evaluates the impact of the 2 parameters influencing the conversion: the sampling frequency and the resolution. A bargraph on the front of the device displays the binary word corresponding to the digitized information. In a second step, the method is applied more concretely to sound. A Jack input allows direct recording of sound (via a microphone or music player). This sound can then be played back on a speaker through digital-to-analog conversion and listened to multiple times with different conversion parameters. In this way, it is possible to make the connection with music compression formats like MP3. To go further, this model can be associated with 'Spectrason' to study a complete conversion chain around sound.
