Adjustment of the mass / frame connection
An analog model explaining how a seismograph works, from the mechanical principle to the recording of the seismogram.
Principle based on the inertia of the recording block (mass), suspended relative to the frame of the device to which movements simulating an earthquake (shock waves) are applied.
The recording of the movement (seismogram) is done on paper coming from a roll, manually moved perpendicularly to the direction of the base movement. The speed of paper movement determines the time constant. An adjusting screw for the degree of freedom of the seismograph on the fixing rod allows for optimizing the damping and therefore the seismogram trace.
Composition:
- Metal frame painted with inscription plate
- Paper guiding device
- Paper roll holder + toilet paper
