The MDO-2000E series is a multifunctional mixed-domain oscilloscope. The series includes two feature combinations: MDO-2000EG and MDO-2000EX. The MDO-2000EG models feature an integrated spectrum analyzer and a dual-channel 25MHz arbitrary waveform generator. The MDO-2000EX models include an integrated spectrum analyzer, arbitrary waveform generator, a 5,000-point digital multimeter, and a 5V/1A power supply. The MDO-2000EX is the first of its kind, being the only oscilloscope equipped with a digital multimeter and power supply in the T & M industry. When entering the spectrum mode, the MDO-2000E series will display a full-screen frequency domain. Users can input the center frequency, span, start frequency, and stop frequency based on test requirements to quickly and intuitively observe the required frequency range, allowing users to experience the user interface of a real spectrum analyzer. While observing the frequency domain display, engineers can observe waveform characteristics that are not easily visible from the time domain waveforms, such as the harmonic composition of a waveform and frequency characteristics of a modulation signal. Compared to the oscilloscope's FFT, the MDO-2000E series enables engineers to efficiently perform signal measurements in the frequency domain. The classic DSO FFT always calculates the entire signal bandwidth up to half the sampling frequency (Fs). However, insufficient calculation capacity cannot perform FFT calculations with more points. Users may not have detailed frequency information of the signal due to the insufficient frequency resolution of the calculation result. In contrast, the MDO-2000E series analyzes the signal's spectrum of interest. Compared to the oscilloscope's FFT, the MDO-2000E series enables engineers to efficiently perform signal measurements in the frequency domain. The frequency domain of the MDO-2000E series also includes Spectrum Trace types (Normal, Max-hold, Min-hold, and Average) (Figure 1). Users can freely choose different spectral traces for simultaneous display. The detection method (Sample, + Peak, -Peak, and Average) can be individually set for each Trace. Additionally, users can manually mark corresponding positions via Cursor to reflect frequency and amplitude. The search function can also be applied to save the spectrum peak table. Amplitude is displayed in dB, and Marker can obtain measurement data. Users can use the search function to find and mark the amplitude and frequency of the spectral signal. Search methods include Max. peak and threshold. Measurement results can be displayed and saved. Compared to a general spectrum analyzer, the spectral function of the MDO-2000E series can test signals below ~9 kHz, which is applicable for analyzing the frequency domain of audio frequency and vibrations. The MDO-2000E series can also test continuous component frequency domain signals without damaging the instrument. In terms of displaying the frequency domain waveform, the MDO-2000E series, with the same capacity as a real-time spectrum analyzer, is faster than a general spectrum analyzer. Why? This is because the MDO-2000E series uses digital circuitry and software to calculate the FFT. A general spectrum analyzer can only process signals of narrow frequency bandwidth one at a time through frequency scanning. Each scan will take several ms to tens of ms. Hundreds and thousands of frequency scans are gathered to form a spectrum. Therefore, the displayed spectrum is not obtained at the same time. The MDO-2000E series achieves spectrum display at the same time using digital circuitry and software to calculate FFT, which is faster than the frequency scanning method. The FFT settings of oscilloscopes are based on horizontal scale settings (sampling frequency), which are completely different from the frequency range setting of the MDO-2000E series. Most instruments will have insufficient frequency resolution due to insufficient FFT points when measuring the spectrum by FFT. Compared to oscilloscope FFT, the MDO-2000E series meets users' requirements for signal measurement below 9 kHz; better adjustment interface, measurement resolution, and measurement speed.
