IPL - Helmet with Laser Alignment Software
The Immersive Photonics Lab (IPL) is a Virtual Reality application dedicated to photonics training that accurately reproduces physical phenomena and effectively develops procedural skills. It simulates the optical and laser equipment necessary to train students anytime, anywhere, without risk of injury.
The goal of this practical is to learn how to align a laser beam along a predefined axis using two mirrors and two diaphragms.
â–ª Level 1: Discover the alignment procedure.
â–ª Level 2: Understand the optical setup to know which mirror to adjust in a particular configuration. Learn to reapply the alignment procedure.
â–ª Level 3: Know how to apply the alignment procedure with higher precision requirements.
â–ª Level 4: Be able to independently apply the alignment procedure with a laser beam whose propagation is not visible (unlike levels 1 to 3).
The Laser Alignment version includes 4 guided levels during which the learner becomes familiar with the components of the setup and discovers the iterative laser alignment procedure.
At the end of the four levels, they will be able to align a visible or invisible laser beam in a specified direction using two mirrors and two diaphragms.
Throughout the various stages, the learner is also made aware of laser safety hazards.
A sandbox mode allows for applying the acquired knowledge to design and align their own setup.
