Dropping funnel

A separating funnel is a piece of laboratory glassware designed to perform precise and controlled transfers of liquids, solutions, and reagents while limiting losses and the risk of contamination. It is therefore used to add a reagent dropwise into a flask; this rate must be strictly controlled to avoid overly rapid or hazardous reactions. Thanks to their specific shape and suitable outlet, they make it easier to pour in a controlled way into beakers, test tubes, flasks, or molds, whether in chemistry, biochemistry, or in the context of teaching practicals. Robust and easy to handle, the separating funnel is particularly well suited to school, university, and technical laboratories, where volume accuracy and manipulation safety are essential.

Our range of laboratory separating funnels includes different volumes, shapes, and glass types to suit the main educational and professional applications. They can be used together with other glassware (beakers, volumetric flasks, test tubes) and integrate easily into protocols for preparing solutions, casting gels, or transferring culture media. Combined with regular glassware maintenance (for example, using an ultrasonic bath for deep cleaning), these separating funnels help maintain excellent preparation and handling quality in the laboratory.

There are two types of separating funnels:

  • Non‑isobaric separating funnel: ideal for gradually adding the reagent into a flask for a moderate reaction.
  • Isobaric separating funnel: used when the reagent is highly volatile, toxic, or sensitive to moisture. The pressure between the funnel and the flask is thus maintained, allowing controlled flow of the reagent.
